FOR RELEASE JANUARY 1 2009
West Fairlee Resident has Unique Resolution this New Year
Scott Graham, of West Fairlee, announced today his number one New Year resolution for 2009: to get elected to the West Fairlee Selectboard. Graham, who works as a business and personal coach, was the first to register with the town to run for the March 2009 elections. Although he officially registered to run in mid-December, he waited until today to formally announce his candidacy.
Asked why he chose to run for Selectboard, Graham says, “This is a critical time for West Fairlee – the decisions we make now will have repercussions for years.”
Asked which issue he views as the most critical for the town, Graham says, “There are a lot of issues facing our town – from Bean Hall to the Town offices to taxes – big financial challenges in a time of economic chaos. But our greatest challenge is not any of these. It’s how we make these decisions. How we act toward each other – how we treat each other – while working for a solution to the challenges we face as a town. As leaders, our actions reflect on our town, not just on us.”
“When we listen, cooperate and reach out to our community we create a positive image. When we argue, allow factions to overly-influence decisions and assume we know best, we create a negative image,” says Graham.
Graham’s intention to reach out to his community is evident in his choice for an Internet presence. When you go to Graham’s website, you discover you are on a facebook page. “People would have to create a login to participate in any website I put up. By using facebook, people get a login plus the power of social networking. Besides, if facebook is a good enough tool for McCain and Obama to use to build their campaigns, it is good enough for Graham,” says Graham. “Login and make your voice heard.”
What can you expect at Willoughby Forest in the next 10 years?
Lots.
We are currently working to establish a woods-grown ginseng farm. We did an experimental planting in 2006 and if the crop appears successful we will move forward with additional plantings in 2009.

In the future we plan to explore community farming as well as establish a cold climate vinyard.
