Last hike before the single-day Presidential Traverse on August first. Join me for a loop hike with
panoramic views. Distance: Starting from Appalachia, the trail climbs fairly quickly to treeline at roughly 3 miles. From there it stays on the Durand Ridge and crosses the narrow Knife Edge before crossing the Gulfside trail and climbing rocky summit cone. Total ascent 4.3 miles with an elevation gain of 4500'. Descend via Valley Way - This is one of the most well used and protected of the trails from the north. From the summit, descend via Airline to Gulfside and continue to Madison Hut. Continue descent to Rt 2 via Valley Way. Total descent 4.7 miles with an elevation loss of 4500'. Equipment: Day hike gear. Be prepared for bad weather just in case. Directions to Trailhead: The Valley Way trailhead/Appalachia parking lot is located on NH Route 2 in Randolph, NH. Meet at the trailhead at 8:30 am.
