Camp outs are usually built around one or two hikes. The schedule is typically arrive the night before (Friday), hike the next day (Saturday), back to camp and then leave the following day (Sunday). For campouts with two hikes the first one (Saturday) is the bigger one and the second one (Sunday) is shorter. You can come for all -- or part -- of a camp out and all -- or part -- of the hikes. For example you could come Friday and do the Saturday hike then leave or say over another night and then leave Sunday and not do the Sunday hike. Or you could come Saturday afternoon, camp out and do the Sunday hike. Or just camp out and do none of the hikes. There is a lot to do in the White Mountains! You will need the basics, including a tent and sleeping bag and sleeping pad. A cooler, food, cook stove, fuel, kitchen utensils, etc. I have some extra equipment I can lend out. Of course if there are a bunch of us, we will benefit from each others stuff -- one lantern can give everyone light for example. If someone has a large cook stove, we could all use it -- just chip in for fuel. Logitstics are usually figured out the week prior to the camp out for people who are interested in going. Camp outs are at National Forest Campgrounds. They are primitive: pit toilets, no showers, well water (you don't have to purify it). Sites are flat and have a picnic table as well as a fire pit. There is no electricity, so leave your hair dryer at home. (lol). |
